Vocal Spector came out of clinical practice, not out of a product plan.
For phonetograms there are a few dedicated tools. For everything else — perceptual assessment, acoustic analysis, following a patient across visits — the reality in most clinics is a collection of home-made solutions, spreadsheets, and tools that know nothing about each other.
Two of the founders practise clinically and saw the need in their own work: one coherent tool, with analysis you can trust, that does not require patient audio to leave the machine.
The measures are built on published algorithms and methods from the research literature, adapted and tuned for clinical voice and speech analysis. Sound level calibration follows IEC 61672-1:2013.
We do not claim that Vocal Spector implements a single standard for the acoustic analysis. No such standard exists, and saying otherwise would be misleading.

The app makes two kinds of network call: a licence check and an update check. No audio and no patient data is ever sent to us.
Recordings and results are stored in the file system on your own machine, in the clear. Encryption at rest is not enabled today, but can be added if your organisation requires it — tell us and we will talk about it.

Two things we get asked about often, and the answer to both is no today. We prioritised the quality of the acoustic analysis and the experience of using the application first, and we are actively working towards both.
